Termites\\

21 June 2002\\

The fight\\

After the canceling of the gladiators fight due to the public lynching of the chief cook, we are approach the next night by the organizers. They want to re-start the arrangement. There is general agreement to go ahead, but not on the timing. Seth and Axelle argue for some quite period for us to recover and other events to take the attention of the officers from our meute. But Di Pionio sees it differently. He wants to fight the very same night, the furet agrees. All in all one can start to question the sanity of Di Pionio  it appears that excessive exposure to Darkness and other weird prophets has undermined his last glimpses of reason.\\
No agreement is reached in the group.\\
Luckily our Flambeau, Avanti, punishes us once more with a meaningless task  to guard a cross in the Darkness. What a nice co-incidence\\

The Cross\\

A long debate starts on how guards should be distributed among an uneven number of people. Again sanity seems to leave the group  but clear signs of fight for authority appear. The furet (1st rank soldier), Di Pionio and Seth argue over who should be right\\

Then a cry in the surrounding Darkness \\
An enquiry reveals that we have been shadowed by our sister phalange. And Minsk and Robert have killed a concalite who was following us.\\

A passing patrol takes the enquiry away from us. We are interviewed by the Pures on the issue. Clearly there are still concalite around. But the regime of surveyance that we are exposed to does not allow us to get extra information. It is Seth and the furet that claim the kill. The twin brothers agreed to this. They seem to prefer discretion.\\

Termites\\

The next day we are sent to the front again. Lack of sleep also starts to undermine sanity\\

We discover a passed caravan that was clearly attacked and eliminated. However, nothing seems to have been stolen from the people and there are few signs of fighting. We are intrigued.\\

We decide the have the Croisees Lumieres move away from the scene in order not to affect the moral of the troops.\\
Then we are sent to enquire what happened.\\
We discover that somebody has systematically burned the mushrooms resources in the region.\\

Then we sight a series of huge Termite towers. As we approach them a man comes to meet us.\\

He invites us to come one-by-one to the village. He says he can talk to the termites and that they are nice.\\

Everybody can see that this is a trap. Only the two crazy proneurs decide to go and investigate. (this shows once more the total lack of leadership in our team  neither Angus, nor Seth, nor the furet try to stop both medics to leave at once  something they had insisted on before )\\

Soon we hear cries of pain from the village. Angus wants to retreat. Only Axelles charm can convince the half-hearted troops to save Di Pionio.\\

As we storm to the rescue it soon becomes clear that the village is full of strange people, who live in symbiosis with the termites. They try to block / attack us. For once Axelle is in the front and takes part full heartedly in the attack. Everybody fights bravely. Only the proven courage of the furet and the new discovered courage of Axelle allow to free Di Pionio who is held by 5 men.\\
Still all the courage in the world would not have allowed us to overcome the masses of enemies without the help of our sister Phalange. They lose a man in the attack.\\

It is with great difficulty that we retreat from the pursuing termites. Indeed Axelle even stays at the back to help some injured comrades.\\

As we recover our wits in a safe area, that the termites cannot enter we see that we are followed by the very man who had lured us into the village.\\

He carries on his back the body of the proneur we could not save.\\

It is the price he offers us for admittance in our caravan. He tells his sorry tale. We were not his first victims. Despite the anger of Axelle the man is spared  again a sign of the vagrant mind of Di Pionio  save the man who tried to kill him\\

The other proneur, it turns out, is alive. He has been used as deposit for the eggs of the Termite queen. The process is painful, but he will likely survive.\\

As we make our way back to the caravan we are approached by two Shankreatures. Two huge muscular men. They speak. They know all about the caravan. They say that they are many to live in Darkness and survive. But we will never see them as we make to much noise and light.\\
There is some hesitation in the group of whether to kill them or not. But none is in a fit state to fight.\\
The creatures offer to guide us back to the caravan. Seth convinces us to trust them. Angus, as most others, is very weary. As it turned out Seth was right. We save a lot of time and energy on the way back following these creatures who seem to know Darkness like their own pocket.\\

Conclusion:\\

-	we will not speak of the Shankreatures to anybody\\
-	the man that has lived with the termites will be adopted into another mainstream meute\\
-	why do the concalite try to kill us?\\
-	Why is there a death prophet walking around the Leviathan at night?\\
-	How far are we from Noples?\\
-	How many marcheurs are still with us?
